The 5 Stages of the Design Process
A lot of people have been asking me how I create my designs and products, learn about the 5 stages that go into each piece.
Stage 1 of the Design Process
Drawing and painting in different media. I love this stage as you have no idea how you will end up using the artwork or what feel or colour the final design will be.
Stage 2 of the Design Process
Choosing colours and creating the design. This is when the original artwork comes to life and my vision for the finished fabric design becomes real. Photoshop is a fantastic tool for designing digital artwork.
Stage 2 of the Design Process
Digital print. The new designs are sent over to the Silk Bureau to be digitally printed on their beautiful selection of fabrics. It’s a bit like Christmas for me when the new fabrics are delivered to my studio, finally the design is real!
Stage 4 of the Design Process
Sewing! Now the fabrics become a real product, I have spent a lot of time refining how I make my products so they are beautifully finished. Quality is key!
